From New Growth from Old Stock to Identifying a Path Forward and Catching a Glimpse of a Magnificent Future

The Way Does More Than Connect Two Points. Years of cultivation have left more than mere impressions, whether large or small, of those who have trod the path; they also point the way for a magnificent future of Chinese art. Anticipation of this magnificence inspired me to pay special attention to the continuities and ruptures within Chinese culture. As a gallery owner during this era of transition, I became well acquainted with many fascinating artists and their changing art forms, and with the conviction that celebrating their diversity would sustain my art gallery, I steadily strode forward. Artists of the modern era, regardless of whether they worked in a contemporary or classical vein, have presented the beauty of the underlying Chinese tradition at the Lin and Lin Gallery over many years.

To meet the expectations of both academic and art collector communities, the gallery has created the exhibition series Derivations: Unlimited Crossing based on its history of collaboration with important modern and contemporary artists from around the world. Over the course of its 30-year existence, the gallery has collected and verified historical data, and reflected the development of work by Chinese artists by presenting ongoing transitions between generations. The pursuit of spirituality in Chinese art can be seen in the maxim "follow nature and change with everything," which differs widely from the western notion that artists must maintain an individual stance in the face of changing art forms and explore unique and direct perceptions of reality.
