《我出國了，然後我回來了》為北美館103年對外徵件展覽脫穎而出的展覽之一。藝術家陳以軒早先是以〈你是懂了嘛〉入圍「2014臺北美術獎」，作品關注語言與翻譯的文化政治問題。本次展覽仍接續藝術家對於文化差異的關注，但將軸線銜接上個人生命經驗的敘事問題。

1982年出生於臺北的陳以軒，大學時期主修廣告傳播，2010年赴美攻讀紐約普瑞特藝術學院攝影創作碩士。暑假回臺後因文化衝擊而感覺格格不入，開始以類公路攝影的方式，透過拍攝臺灣地景尋找自我，創作〈遍尋無處〉系列作品。展場不以精緻裱框的方式呈現，反而將照片輸出製成書本，再撕下後張貼於展牆上。〈翻閱在中間〉一作則是藝術家在歷經情感的創傷後，重新整理兩人共有的記憶，以後設的觀點重新組織這些影像，刻意把「刺點」（Punctum）放置書籍中間，讓曾經有過的情感投注中心，成為讀者無法直視的「沒影點」（Vanishing Point），雖非全然抹除，卻已產生偏航。〈過去的未來，未來的過去〉則是藝術家在面對未來的茫然與不知所措時，藉由梳理過往隨機拍下之影像，以劇場化的方式，將曾經偶遇之人生圖景中的潛勢，化為未來的機遇。

《我出國了，然後我回來了》以口語化的方式道盡了陳以軒兩年間進行的三段創作旅程，在面對旅居國外時文化的差異，以及回國後重新找尋自我認同感。他以作品證明自我價值，並以豐富的創作能量呈現於觀者眼前。
