Liu Chih-Hung is one of the outstanding artists selected from our museum’s 2012 open call for exhibition proposals. An alumnus of the Taipei National University of the Arts’ Graduate School of Fine Arts, Liu is an artist that pays exceptional attention to observing the miniscule details found in everyday people, things and occurrences. With the visual fragments from his experiences stored in his mind and througha process of condensation and transformation, layers are formed from the artist’s brushstrokes and compilations of the abundantly used low saturation acrylic colors, with the images created seem to be frozen in “time”.

Liu Chih-Hung began his four–year long Quick Sketch Project in 2010, with experiences and feelings from his everyday life documented in th army during this period, and with life in the military being quite strict and confined, he was only able to use his days off to draw from memory the many distinctive sceneries from his time in the army. This exhibition is an interim organization of the artist’s endeavors thus far, and is analogous to a chapter in a collection of short fictions.

Short Fiction: Liu Chih – Hung Solo Exhibition is divided into the following four subtopics: The Star Museum, The Pearl Necklace, The South, and Samples of Sighs, with each section closely linked with the artist’s memories. The Star Museum is predominantly composed of records of emotions and incidents; The Pearl Necklace uses the artist’s mother’s pearl necklace as a guide to link together his experiences in life; Samples of Sighs consists of artworks that no longer belong to the artists due to various reasons; and The South signifies the continuation of this creative project. The exhibition includes over-hundred pieces of two-dimensional acrylic paintings, other object, and is intended to guide the audience to approach each artwork like reading a segment in novel and by attentively reading each piece, they are invited to entire into the artist’s life stories.
