Painters like Chin Jun-T'so, Chang Yi-hsiung, Hung Rui-lin, Liao Te-cheng, and Chang Wan-chuan were caught in the gap between two generation-groups, but they were indeed purified of worldly ambitions, uncontentious and having no desire of vying with their contemporaries in order to outshine them. Unlike the first-generation senior artists, they were not the focus of attention; nor were they as aggressive as the generation that succeeded them. They buried themselves in their work, and eventually produced works that are alive with character and rich content. Now their achievements are recognized and their reputation earned. It is only fair to point out that Chin, the mainstay of the Provincial Exhibition in the earlier days, was unduly forgotten because of his precocious death. He was the youngest among the group that was also the first to make his way with works that carry the depth of feeling and thought. On this present occasion while his works are shown posthumously at Taipei Fine Arts Museum we sincerely hope that they will attract due attention from the public. "Fight no one except for Art" is the way that Chin lived up to in his faithfulness to art and it is admirable and worth our memory.
