Ting Yin Yung's artistic presentation departed from the academicism of the West. Nevertheless, his personality, the era,
and his tribulation compelled him to practice artistic creation with his own life journey solemnly, reflecting radically on the post-war possibility for the innovation of the traditional art. Ultimately, he returned to line, which is the fundamental source for both calligraphy and painting, revisiting the childlike innocence in the rustic command of objects. Ting returned to the character painting for a while. At last, through the reserved experience of Bada Shanren's ink painting, he fused the folk hues pulsing beneath the traditional Chinese art. The dense colors, the rustic strokes, and the dashing ink tones ultimately culminate into what he described as the art of the East. Underneath his consciousness, Ting sought not a fusion of arts of the East and the West, but a rendezvous of personality, temporality, and nationality.
