施翠峰教授自民國三十九年踏出師大校門後即服務於教育界，連續執教長達四十五年，作育英才無敷，是美術教育界的長青樹，對台灣美術界貢獻良多。施教授的繪畫創作，在中年以前以水彩為主，中年以後以油畫為主。他的畫多屬靜物或風景寫生，題材如海景、月下瓊花、鄉村田園、池中游魚、瓶花等皆常入畫。他的水彩在技巧上，可見早年所奠定深厚基礎呈現的功力，其畫面結構單純有力。節奏明快；至一九八〇年代，他在水彩畫中嘗試滲入國畫的筆觸及意境，如此次回顧展中的「玫瑰花」、「桃花朵朵」等，便皆是新技法嘗試成功之佳作。

他的油畫創作起始雖晚，卻也不比水彩遜色。至一九九〇年代，他巧妙地將所擅長的透明水彩技法，應用在不透明的油畫上，使畫面上用色顯得無比的亮麗。例如：「晚歸」、「霧中觀音」、「觀音雨景」、「月夜泛舟」等作便是。要之，這些技法的應用本來就相當困難的，而他成功地做到了。

此次個展最吸引觀眾注目的，恐怕是以關渡一帶所能看到的觀音山為主题，所畫出的十四幅連作。對象雖相同，呈現在觀眾眼前的畫面情調，卻每一張都不同。施教授的繪畫創作長久以來，都秉持著一個信念，即藝術是美感經驗之表現，藝術的作品應是具有美感内涵的作品。由於他對週遭美景及台灣鄉土風物的熱愛，使得他將這股情意傾注於畫紙與畫布上，並以或粗獷或細緻之筆調，儘量地追求將對象之神韻生動地畫入畫幅之中。要之，在他的畫面中，則可反映出台灣時代生活的脈動，以及他一己的氣質、性情與生活。圖文資料來源：臺北市立美術館
