Reproduction patinated by hand. Mold made from an imprint of the original work exhibited at the Louvre.

This figurine is a reproduction of a toiletry item, which belongs to a well-known group of spoons with a swimmer and served as a mortuary offering.

The graceful naked young woman adorned with jewels and wig reflects all the refinement of the 18th dynasty's civilisation.

The spoon she holds in her extended arms is decorated with an aquatic motif displaying fish and lotus flowers. The delicate moulding is enhanced by engraving and paint.

It is now believed that the purpose of these "toiletry items" (many of which are visible at the Louvre museum) is religious and funerary. The various salves, myrrh, maybe wine and certainly water may have been offered thanks to these spoons.

The aquatic motives that ornate these objects evoke the invigorating freshness of water and vegetation and may be the guarantee of newly found eternal youth.
