韓湘寧君，湖南湘潭人。一九三九年生。一九六0年夏畢業於省立師大藝術專修科，隨即加入「五月畫會」，同時受聘執教於其中學時期之母校-師大附中。今年 (1961)年初，作品入選第六届巴西聖保羅國際二年現代藝展，參加代表中國作品之展出。同年五月間以五件作品參加五月畫會第五屆公展，為韓君初次以抽象繪畫在國內公開展出。七月初繼以「事件」（L’Aftaire）一幅入選參加巴黎國際青年現代藝展（與聖保羅國際二年展同為國立歷史博物舘代辦）。

顯然目前韓君的繪畫已經進入了抽象的領域，但是我們應當知道，像當前國内每一位較有成就的抽象畫家一樣，韓君的繪畫是基于很深厚紮實的寫實根柢上的。他在素描、油畫兩方面，對人體寫生都會下了很大的功夫，可以說他目前繪畫中那種厚重的質量感與濃醇的「人」的氣息，部份是由此而來。簡而言之，韓君的繪畫是以「人性」為根株及主幹而發展的。自民國四七年至目前爲止不太長的三年期間，他在繪畫技巧、思想双方面，都有奇速的成長、轉變與進步。初由單純的人體造型習作到以寫實的人體之不同姿態與表情，展現各種心理氣氛（moods）與情感勢態（emotional intention），其技巧及思想尚頗受早期學院作風的束縛。但在這種畫作中，我們很可以看出韓君確具的藝術才華及他對外界事物認識的精敏與深刻。同時他在靜物寫生上也下了不少功夫，對畫面之深度、構圖之均衡，及光色、筆觸在不同的空氣、時間中應有的變化也有較深入的研究。節錄自內容 - 整元性成長的宇宙- 韓湘寧及其繪畫方勺 (方莘)
