本書為臺北市立美術館「黑潮：賴純純回顧展」展覽專輯。展覽由張晴文策劃，以「黑潮」為名，象徵賴純純創作純然而深邃、多變卻一貫的特質。透過「存在與變化」、「真空妙有」、「海洋與仙境」、「社會參與」等四個子題梳理賴純純1970年代至今的創作脈絡，展出油畫、壓克力繪畫、複合媒材創作、雕塑、裝置、手稿、影片與文獻等百餘件作品。展覽專輯完整收錄展出作品圖版，以及策展論述、藝術家自述、藝評家峯村敏明與獨立文字記者吳垠慧所撰寫之專文。
