Taiwan has become a “super-aged society.” Making elder care a crucial part of life, being a caregiver can feel like being sealed off in a foreign land.
Caregivers handle the internal mess and problems every day.Living up to nearly 100 years, cancer, mental disorders, hoarding...all kinds of issues arise. There is no going back.
Very lucky to have a supportive family who never gave up on me or us.
But what about those who are not as fortunate as I am?
Observing my own position, role, and changes in caregiving, one can be both an accomplice and a reformer.
When you tell someone "Everyone came to see you,"
when you are told " Everyone came to see you."
Only those who have personally taken care of their loved ones until they pass will understand the feeling of being at a lost when a part of you is gone.
Although the government has invested a lot of resources in this area, there are still lots of caregivers silently fighting in the trenches of long-term care in all corners of Taiwan.
When the alarm rings, I might not be there.
If I am there, it might be ringing for me.
