Wuyung Hsu, known as a doctor and an artist, dedicates himself to his dream in younger days. He carries out the work of a doctor and artist at the same time, and establishes equilibrium between the reality and liberty of life. Longing for the wonderland, Wuyung Hsu reflects the themes of art on the life science and art spirit, he sincerely expresses a detached view of the world by means of his artworks. Wuyung Hsu was inspired by Cubism in his early years whereby he has threw himself into the art world over 60 years. The subjects of his paintings are rich and involved with the fairly maidens, the landscapes, the flowers, the religious figures, the folktales, and the paintings of his traveling life, which express his sentimental feelings towards the original Taiwan culture. This exhibition features over one hundred pieces of Wuyung Hsu’s works between 1942 and 2006, including his representative work of every different period.In Wuyung Hsu’s early years, he studied painting under Toho Shiozuki in Japan, and later on he was deeply attracted to Marc Chagall’s style of surreal painting. While traveling, Hsu painted the natural beauty of scenery to constitute a picture of which embodies the reality and unreality; the subjects of fairly maidens moving with the calm serenity have became a significant visual symbol language to the world.
