“The mission of an artist is not only to create, but to discover.”
– Paul Chiang
Perish II, a large piece of artwork made by metal corrugated panels which were once the walls of his now demolished studio. The years of sun and rain exposure showed the trace of time and imprinted natural rust on iron. These unusual colours and texture were beauty Chiang had never seen before and irreplicable by man. He discovered that beauty overturned the established imagination of art and material.
Jinzun : Paul Chiang
The Jinzun series was made with abandoned black boards, which were used to form concrete into structural shapes.
Paul Chiang regarded the soil stains remaining on the board as natural beauty and mixed pigments and sculptures with cement to give new life and value to the discarded black boards.
Paul Chiang Art Center: Yu Han Michael Lin & Paul Chiang
“My mission is to place the structure gracefully in the environment of Taitung, making the architecture an artistic sculpture.”
– Yu Han Michael Lin
Yu Han Michael Lin’s design of the Paul Chiang Art Center was inspired by Paul Chiang’s Farm House sculpture. It blends into the vast landscape of Taitung like large sculptures immersed in nature.
